Tomorrow Night, We Dance

lastsat_flyer_jpeg

Been overwhelmed this week with work, music, and prep work for the 5 O’Clock Shadowboxers album (dropping Tuesday June 23rd).  I promise a bunch of new stuff coming next week!

In the meantime, this Saturday marks Beat Garden’s first dance party, hosted and spearheaded by my manager, the incomparable and almost perfectly circular Big O.  Here’s the info:

Party People-

Join us this Saturday @ Liquid Charm in Chinatown for one of the best new hiphop dance parties in the city.  This month features DJ Cru Cut of Outerspace, and his long-standing monthly event at the Bubble House in University City…  “Expect to hear everything from Dilla to Ludacris to Big Daddy Kane to MIA to Mikejackooooo”

The event will be hosted by none other than Big O (aka Anthony Anderson’s doppelganger, Andre 3000 Pounds), who is the city’s most in-demand rap show host for his (in)famous stand up comedy routines between performance sets…  There are also one or two surprise guest emcee appearances slated that will run 5-10 minutes each.

While there’s 300 other ‘hip-hop’ dance parties going on downtown this weekend, none of them will be quite like this.  Liquid Charm combines a great sound system and hardwood dancefloor with a laidback/intimate setting, along with friendly bartenders, affordable drinks and pool tables in the back of the venue.

For those who can’t see the flier copied below, here is the info:

SATURDAY MARCH 28TH @ LIQUID CHARM (12th & Race, Philadelphia)

DJ Cru Cut on the wheels
Big O doing the host thing
Surprise guest emcees

doors @ 10pm, 21+
$2 lagers and other ‘cheap shit’ all night… other drink specials until 12.

The Cold Sell

buff-1-show2

Don’t forget about me on Saturday night, Philly!

Since I’m not big on blasting off 1500 MySpace bulletins to promote this hella dope show on Saturady @ The Khyber, I’m just going to let the “sh*t sell itself” (word to Malice of the Clipse).   On a sidenote, I’m really excited to be on this bill–I’ve been banging the Hustle Simmons album in the car throughout ’08 and really enjoyed what I’ve heard so far of John Robinson’s new project with Flying Lotus.  We’ll be doing some ZR favorites along with a new joint or 2, as me and Nex Millen never just hit play on CD-R and keep it stale.

New Shows Added

Still more hip hop than Yung Berg.

A whole gaggle of dates have been added to the itenierary.  Just in October alone, you’ll be able to catch me and Nico playing with Lyrics Born and Keith Murray, who still lets his balls hang out like he’s on the toilet taking a shit.  No homo of course!  (Remember back in ’95 when a rapper could say a lyric like that and not have to worry about being homophobic?  Thanks Cam’ron and Byron Crawford!  It’s so much better this way!)

If you’re in Philly this weekend, I’ll be at the Tacony Pool Hall alongside Firm Tactiqs, Capo and more with Big O hosting.  All my northeast ladies have no excuse not to come by, watch me serenade you with classics by The Flamingos and Peggy Lee, and buy a mixtape or t-shirt.

Oh yeah…GO DODGERS!!!  LA in 7.

Feed the Beast Week 7 + Sean Price Show Photos

We just wrapped up another jampacked week with a BANG!

First off, head over to 33jones.com to check out Week 7 of Feed the Beast (THERE’S ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT! as Trevor Smith would say).  This week features my pick, Three Six Mafia’s “Stay Fly,” versus 50 Cents “Gunz Come Out,” a joint chosen by Haj of Dumi.  I’ve heard MC’s crush this beat since 2005.  Listen to how Nico fares on beats that really have nothing in common!  Oh, and fellow bloggers, listen very closely to “Gunz Come Out”–you might hear your name!

Listen to Feed the Beast Week 7 here

Alright…if you weren’t at the Sean Price show this past Friday, you missed honestly one of the best Philly hip hop shows I’ve ever seen.  Every act on the bill put on a clinic, the crowd was attentive and amped from beginning to end, and Sean Price performed at least 20 songs.  Sadly, he didn’t slap the shit out of anyone.

Here’s some photos from the show from my man Snap Kracker, probably the illest photographer around.  You can look at more of his work under the My Mellow My Man section of this very blog.

Your host for the evening, Big O, the meanest, the baddest, the new rap apparatus with more stick-up status than a cactus (he came up with that, I didn’t)

The crowd was ready…

DJ NoPhrillz dropped Common’s “Hungry” and I immediately had a heart attack.

Nico and Big O during “My Piano”

Nico and 2ew Gunn Ciz performing “Crush Rock”

There’s me about to recreate the scene from that old ass Pearl Jam video when Eddie Vedder jumped into the crowd.  Philly wasn’t having it.

Al Mighty, one half of MAGr.  And he’s still smutting them fat chicks.

Distant Starr, the other half of MAGr.  He looks mad regal.

2ew Gunn Ciz reps the Phillies, no matter how badly Brett Meyers pitches.

2ew Gunn is a man of the people.
